Are Chia Seeds Really the New Superfood?
They are little black or white seeds that are packed full of nutrients. They are a great source of antioxidants, fibre, potassium, iron, magnesium, protein and calcium. I think that definitely makes them a super food.
Black seeds have slightly more protein and antioxidants whereas the white seeds have a bit more omega 3. And they are also gluten free.
They can help you lose weight, cut those cravings for sugar and carbs they are also great if you are not getting enough calcium.
I found whilst breastfeeding I really needed to boost my calcium and I don’t like to drink glasses of milk so I started with Chia seeds.
One teaspoon of chia seeds contains more calcium than a glass of milk!
I now have chia seeds for breakfast – check out my recipe
But they can be used for any meal – because the way they absorb liquid, they don’t really have a flavour which makes them extremely versatile.
They slow the conversion of carbs into sugar, which helps stabilise your blood sugar levels, so you don’t get that sweet craving.
Throw some in a smoothie, in your salads or even in your mince meat.
